Do you own a pet or have a garden? If you do, then you will agree with me when I say that it is an ordeal to leave a pet or a garden at the behest of some one, when going on a vacation. Most of the time, you will be worrying about the welfare of your pet. Thought normally wander around things like whether the pet has been fed and taken for a walk and his safety. These thoughts are normal as the pet is a part of the family but there are ways to ever come this hurdle.
Gone are the days when you needed to have your own private jet to take your pet with you. Nowadays, laws regarding traveling with pets have undergone a sea change. So when you plan a vacation, some of the things need to be kept in mind regarding your pet’s travel. First, you must phone or personally visit the airline and ask them about their rules regarding travel of pets. You may need a special pet permission. Many a times they will specify the hand bag size in which you may carry your pet on board or be kept in the luggage area.
Before you book your tickets, it is imperative that you ask the travel agent to update you on the pet policy of the place where you are going on a vacation. You could phone the hotel or resort direct for the information. Some hotels and resorts do have separate arrangements for keeping pets of guests at a little extra cost. In case you are traveling abroad, then you must find out if the country you wish to go to has any requirements that have to be fulfilled before they allow you to land with a pet. After dealing with bird flu and swine flu in many countries, they may want a medical proof that your pet is not carrying any virus on him or her.
In case you plan to drive to your destination, then there will not be much of a problem while traveling as you can take as many stops as you like. However you will have to take permission to bring a pet, before you reach your destination as usual. You must ensure that you carry enough food for you pet, especially if he or she eats only a certain kind of food, which may not be readily available in a new place.
Among the other luggage that you carry, you will have to keep a leash and collar for your pet, a basket or bag to carry the pet in, any medicine that you may need to administer to your pet, in consultation with your pet’s vet. Carry a few bags of ready made Pet Food for emergency, in case you run out of local food options. Most importantly, do not forget to carry your pet’s bedding. A new place may make the pet uncomfortable, so some old familiar thing is always welcome.
